Trivia :
- Premiere : 12/09/1968
Re-release : 12/03/1977
Re-release : 12/11/1987
Re-release : 03/26/1993 - King Gustaf VI Adolf was a guest of honor at the Swedish premiere.
- For the 1 millionth visitor to see The Jungle Book in Sweden (a four year old boy named Ann Jonsson), Beppe Wolgers (the speaking voice of Baloo) was supposed to fly out and see him, but due to his busy schedule working in television, Leppe Sundevall (the voice of King Louie) met Ann instead. Source.
- For the original 1968 and 1977 re-release, the film was censored as the censors thought these scenes would scare Swedish children. All of the cut scenes involve Shere Khan. These scenes include Shere Khan stalking the deer (Bambi's Mom), Shere Khan roaring at Mowgli, Shere Khan's threat to Baloo ("I'll kill you for this !"), Shere Khan wrestling with Baloo, and Shere Khan chasing Mowgli with Baloo holding Khan's tail (flash and thunder). These scenes were restored for the 1987 re-release and has been presented that way since (including all of the home media releases.)
- Pontus Gustafsson was 13 years old when he dubbed Mowgli.
- The mixing of the Swedish dub was done in Rome to cut costs.
- *Rolf Bengtsson is credited as Rolf Bengtson on all materials including newspapers, posters, and official film credits. The correct information is found on the LP record jacket, audio cassette, CD releases of the film's soundtrack, 1993 VHS release and 2000 VHS/DVD release.
- Ulla "Sniff" Neumann dubbed the singing girl in the Swedish dub as well as the Danish dub. She is a Danish-Swedish singer with a Danish father and Swedish mother.
- The official film credits do not credit Carl-Eric Hellström as Shere Khan's singing voice, his name is included on old press materials such as the posters and is listed on the LP jacket. Which is odd seeing that Baloo and Mowgli's singing actors are credited in the majority of the press materials as well as the film itself.
- The Disney+ credits misspells Olof Thunberg as "Olaf Thunberg."
- For the 1993 re-release, the film was remixed into Dolby Stereo for the first time. Originally the dub was recorded in mono and was not intended to be mixed into stereo. According to Olof Thunberg, a new dub was planned with Olof Thunberg reprising his role as Shere Khan. But since the original dub was able to be mixed into stereo, the plans for a new dub were scrapped and the original dub was allowed to be shown. The "S" sound is a lot more pronounced in the stereo mix. The stereo mix is included on the 1993 VHS release even when the tape is played in mono mode.
- For the newest DVD releases, the Swedish dub of this film has been remixed into 5.1 sound. The stereo 1993 mix can be found on the original VHS from 1993 and the first DVD release from 2000. The original mono mix has not been publicly shown since the 1987 re-release.
I would like to thank Leo Löfgren Roberts for sending me his materials for this entry. :)
